12/9/2025 0 Comments Wrist SlapRecently we had a customer ask for some assistance. Her concern was this, "I'm clipping my wrist bone with the string causing it to bruise.” A common issue. So there are a few reasons for this. Without seeing you in action here are a few tips to consider the next time you shoot. As a precautionary measure most archers wear an Arm Guard, we do make these, they are $35 or if you like to have some tooling done; a design tooled into the leather, we can add that for an extra $20-$50 depending on how much work you want done. First off, you might be gripping your bow too tightly. You want to remember to only grip the bow at the top of the handle with your thumb and index finger doing most of the work, the rest of your fingers are just back up to balance the bow when you shoot. Secondly, as women (since this archer is a female) we tend to break our elbow and turn it inwards. To combat this keep your elbow from full extension and leave it bent a little when you are at full draw. Lastly, you may be bending your wrist as well, typically the elbow and wrist break happen simultaneously. So when you are at full draw your writs should NOT be bent, it should be inline with your shoulder. From your hand to your shoulder it should all follow a parallel line to the ground. With your arm making a slight bow shape. I hope this tip helps anyone else who may be experiencing some wrist slap. Feel free to reach out to us with any questions, we’re happy to help you become a better primitive archer. NuneDrunken Office Wench. Instructor. Primitive Healer.
