Let us Build You a Bow
We make two kinds of bows; both are longbows as the longbow (according to the Historical English Bowyer) is typically built to the height of the Archer. So, if you're unusually tall or short, have a longer or shorter reach than most, let us know.
The traditional D-Shaped English Longbow (ELB) - This bow style dates back the Cooper Age. Our limbs are typically " wide, 6' tall and have no rest so it can be shot lefty or righty.
Our Viking Bows are wide limb longbows - Historically speaking Vikings shot D-shaped Longbows.
Typically, the tips of bows are carved into the wood of the bow itself or self-knocked.
We can add antler/horn to the tips. It is not only an esthetic detail, but it is also functional; many of us find ourselves leaning on our bow's chatting, drinking, having a gay old time on the range or in the woods, having horns on the tips saves our bow tips from the damage of being dug into the dirt or while moving brush aside to find those elusive arrows.
*If you're interested in making your bow even more unique and eye catching, we also can build inlays into the tips, this is a sliver of wood glued in between the belly and the backing at the top 6" of the limbs.
We do make self-bows - a single piece of wood carved into a bow. We also make laminated bows - a belly wood, typically Hickory or Red Oak (when available other woods will be listing in the selection drop down), and a backing these can be many things in our shop we carry raw hide, sinew, snakeskin (when available), bamboo and hickory. The backing is important because it can impact the strength of the bow, the elasticity of it.
All bows are sealed with Tongue Oil but before we seal it, we can stain it. (you'll need to contact us for this. We recommend you re-seal your bow at least once a year, twice or more if you live in a dry climate.
All bows come with a white string, you can let us know if you'd like a particular color or twist of colors (this is something a hunter will be likely to address).
All bows unless specified are also equipped with a leather grip. Again, if you'd like a particular color, please contact us to see what we have in stock.
